‘A new album, a new sonic landscape’
FUNDING CAMPAIGN UPDATE #3
QUIRKY QUEST #1
Take a closer peep inside
Wednesday afternoon, 14th March 2012, at 2:15pm, I left my apartment on the Lower East Side in an excited rush, heading towards the Fedex printing shop on E Houston St to print off charts for my third meeting and rehearsal with New York guitarist and co-producer, Ryan Scott. After a ridiculous printing fee and with a giant pile of charts in my hand, I rushed to the Essex St F train subway stop, and headed into Brooklyn!
This week marks the beginning of a really exciting journey for this album and the leap into a musical realm that is quite foreign to me... which is both exhilarating and petrifying! BUT, I have always thought it is better to push the boundaries and test the waters of the unknown in the hope that you will not fall, but in fact find something new and pretty cool!

SO, with that in mind, Ryan and I spent 2 days, Wednesday 14th and Friday 16th March, nutting out arrangements and trialling different ways to approach the tunes! We changed 3/4 bars to 5/4 bars.. got rid of bars and sections all together, changed swing feels to straight grooves.. and then changed more 5/4 to 6/4 bars!  It is amazing to me how much difference it can make by simply altering these smalls details, creating arrangements that have a more natural flow for the listener! I FIND THIS VERY HARD ... as I naturally hear lots of weird things in weird places, so my music tends sound a bit coooky :) This update video shows a number of the tunes we were workshopping and gives you a sneak peak to the material you will be hearing on the record!
This is what we covered in the first two meetings with Ryan... who knows how many more musical bridges we are yet to cross when we meet with the entire band for 3 rehearsals Monday 19th, Tuesday 20th and Wednesday 21st of March! EXCITING!
NOW... LETS TAKE A CLOSER PEEP INSIDE THE STAGES OF THE PROJECT ...
As we leap into the second round of rehearsals and the initial stages of recording this week, I wanted to give you a little more insight into what the project is going to involve, where the money is going, how long it is going to take - basically let you see the entire process through my eyes!

THERE IS ALWAYS overtime in the studio, going overtime in the recording or needing an extra half day or so in the studio.
   ADDITIONAL COSTS BUDGET:  --> TOTAL = $1,500
FINAL BUDGET STAGE 1,2 & 3
= $12,840
So.. as you can see... a HUGE, HUGE CHUNK of the funding for this project is going into the expenses for the NEXT 3 stages.. which will be occurring over the next 2 weeks.. starting TOMORROW!!!!!!
So basically, its crunch time! Every little bit helps, from contributing, to sharing the campaign with your friends, to watching the video and directing other people there.. to simply showing your support through a message .. it really is what makes this project and this sort of campaign work.. where we come together as a GROUP to share the experience every step of the way! :)
After these three stages comes a whole lot more .. adding string parts (which means more studio time and musician hire fees)... mixing.. mastering.. and this is really just the beginning of what this project involves! When the next stages pop up, I will be filling you in as to what those stages involve and again where the funds are going.. just so you know as much as I do!
I cannot say THANK YOU enough, for simply taking the time to watch the update video’s, reading about the project and supporting me to pursue my passion!
THANK YOU!
That’s it for now .. until the next update ....
